How Much Does Monthly Accounting Cost in New Mexico?

What You'll Pay

Monthly accounting with Arsenault CPA runs $450 to $2,500 a month, in three set packages. If you're a solo owner-operator, the Solo package fits. If you've grown into a team, the Team or Enterprise package will fit. And if you're not sure which one makes sense, we'll help you figure that out.

Why we'll tell you the price

Most firms have wide-ranging variable prices that depend on a lot of complex factors, so you can't know your cost until you've sat through a sales call. We make it simple: set packages that we know make sense for most of the small businesses we work with in New Mexico. We don't have hidden fees, and you'll know your monthly number before you sign anything.

What Moves Your Monthly Fee

  • Employees and payroll. Packages are keyed to headcount. A solo owner-operator is simpler work than a business running payroll for a crew.
  • Revenue. Revenue is a proxy for activity: more transactions, more accounts, and more to reconcile every month.
  • Accounts to reconcile. Each bank account and credit card we reconcile adds monthly work, so packages cap how many are included.
  • Catch-up work. Past months or years that need cleanup before monthly service begins are scoped separately, priced by how far back we go.

Why Quotes Vary So Much Between Firms

A standalone bookkeeper is the right fit if all you need is a clean, current set of books. The fee is lower because tax strategy, entity decisions, and interpreting what the books show sit outside the engagement. An annual tax preparer fits a stable business whose return looks the same year to year. That work is backward-looking, so it costs less than planning ahead of year-end.

At the other end, some firms bill by complexity and charge more for every extra account instead of simplifying your setup. And a firm without systems built for New Mexico handles gross receipts as a bolted-on exception at a higher cost, the way an out-of-state firm does with its first New Mexico client. For us it's a core, systematized part of serving New Mexico businesses.

Doing It Yourself Isn't Free

Your time and attention are your most expensive resource, and every hour spent chasing statements and redoing back-office work comes off the work that grows the business. The compounding decisions, like entity choice, payroll setup, and separating personal from business finances, are cheap to make early and expensive to discover late. Owners who skip them find out through years of back-filed gross receipts and overpaid self-employment tax.

Costs That Surprise New Mexico Business Owners

  • Gross receipts penalties. Filings you didn't know you owed, discovered by a letter from the state. The most common surprise we see, especially for 1099 professionals.
  • Catch-up work that wasn't in the quote. Messy or commingled books cost more to untangle the longer they sit, and some firms quote monthly service without scoping the cleanup.
  • Year-end handoff fees. When a bookkeeper hands your file to a separate tax preparer, the re-work between them shows up on your bill. With one firm owning the whole picture, that handoff doesn't exist.
